8, with a possibility of future DLC. There are 6 in now, and we know 7 is an electric goat girl she's pretty cute tbh. There's a small comp scene so far. Competitive smash players have been streaming it now and then, and there are videos from some small tourneys up on jewtube.

There was Mango and JTails beating the shit out of each other for a few hours, but not anything else.

There SEEMS to only be two more (8). To be honest the game will absolutely not be worth sticking onto if they don't at least double the current 6.

The online is kind of janky right now. If your framerate dips under 60, your opponent sees it as extreme input lag, for some reason. Unfortunately, with the community dying down like it has, most of hte people left have shit PCs, so expect a lot of laggy matches.
