the more i play Ryu in SF5 the more I think he's not that bad. Ending a combo with a tatsu gives you a free mix up afterward that you cant backroll or quickstand to avoid it. His throw leaves him very close for the same mix up. obviously he struggles in the mid range but it's not that terrible. Seems like a character this just gets close and frame traps/throws the opponent that keeps leading into mix ups if he lands anything

the main thing i would change would is making medium tatsu hit crouchers on the first hit and make light tatsu combo into super at mid screen instead of only in the corner

Can someone point me in the right direction?

The only fighting game I've ever played has been melee and have been wanting to get into real fightan games for a while.

Learn your character to the point you can tell other people how to fight it.

Also wait for new players to arrive. A few newcomers have come along since I started turning up to my own. There's a handful of us capable of convincingly beating one another in tournament now.

spidey has ez superjump level hit confirms that actually do decent damage, while starting a combo with otg web zip scales your damage/hitstun like mad when spidey already has issues with these

jam session also helps spidey deal with tri jump/airdash pressure because he can really easily combo off hits from that height by just doing DP ground bounce or web throw

jam session is a good lockdown assist that fills the holes in spideys surprisingly good pressure game, while vajra doesn't do shit about this and can be punished in a bunch of ways (in particular spidey can call assists from superjump height and do some really ambigious left/rght shit

vajra has lots of really exploitable holes if you know how to deal with it and then you just launcher/super strider to death, dante is harder to punish and actually has health so he can't get instantly disintegrated the way strider does

dante is way way better than strider as an actual character in every single way, including as a comeback character

strider and akuma are mostly anchors

you need to find a middle character (someone with a decent DHC in and DHC out, a solid neutral assist and ideally a tac infinite)

Maybe try Ghost Rider/Magneto/Akuma, with Repulsor and Tatsu as the assists (no idea for Rider, maybe the OTG pillar and see if you can extend combos with it). Assists let you keepaway with GR, but if he's gone Magneto and Akuma can work well together.

Vergil fits in certain teams. Doom fits in ALL teams. Half the reason he's so good is because he synergizes with pretty much the entire roster due to being both versatile and upper-mid-tier at the same time.

Vergil is stronger than Doom, but doesn't work on every team. The most obvious restriction is that Vergil needs a lot of meter to function, and oftentimes is the prime use of X-Factor. Doom can work with what he's given.

a good anchor is fairly straightforward: does xf3 make them able to kill very quickly and without meter and do the buffs they get in xfactor 3 compensate for the lack of assists? if the answer to both is yes then chances are you have a decent anchor on your hands

a good point is a little more tricky to define, basically it's a character who's weaknesses are completely neutralised by the two assists it has alongside it

Anyone finds SFV to be a little too shallow right now? I downloaded the beta with the intention to play Karin and planned to trainboar for about an hour since I love that shit but was done with it in 10 minutes. She has 1 basic confirm from cr MP, 1 V trigger combo, that reset from EX shoulder and electric which are all easy as fuck and took me seconds to reliably nail them down. What's even worse is that it's not even Karin since some characters from the footage looked even more straight forward like Necalli. Maybe I find it too shallow because I've been playing Xrd since it came out and I main Zato, but from my memories of playing SF4 for a few years in the past, it had so much more shit and tech even though I consider it flawed in many aspects. It's strange how SFV improved on many things I found to be dumb in SF4 but at the same time it feels less fun and boring. Footsies are gonna be pretty fun but that's about it it seems.

people didn't know about crouch tech until a year after sf4 dropped

even if V ends being less complex overall with a stronger emphasis on fundamentals that is perfectly fine. there will always be some complex glitch or some shit that people will find and that's enough IMO

The SFxT PC port isn't garbage. It just 1) runs on GFWL still so you're going to have to set that up and 2) you need to be able to run it at 60fps if you want to play without the game shitting on itself. I heard it's dead on PC and that's why I said get it on PSN, it is by far more active on that platform over 360/PC. A few dudes here play on PC so maybe you're in luck.

In my opinion it's one of the basics of fgs game design. I like how they add a layer in games where you can air combo people since if you read the back dash you get a nice pick up into a full combo. If we talk about SF4 invuln back dashes weren't a retarded concept like ultras, specific OSs, short cuts etc so I don't get why Capcom decided to get rid of them.
