It makes some sense. The trainers fighting in the league are equivalent to fighting trainers on victory road. Most that can easily be sweeped through with a couple legendaries ranging from their default levels ingame or few levels more. It's when you get to the elite four you start to see your legendaries getting beaten down. He is even mentioned for mainly using his darkrai throughout sinnoh with no knowledge of the rest of his team till latios was revealed. They seemed to be his main go-to pokemon to use. Something we can do if given a legendary at the beginning of the game. So that against a powerhouse elite four who are known to be top trainers in the region and champion Cynthia who been shown tearing down opponent's teams with a single garchomp and defeating said elite four members. Beating them all is little close to impossible unless you have highly skilled pokemon to top them all.

I was honestly more upset at the Cameron loss... I'll take Ash losing to a top notch trainer in a battle filled with high levelled thinking, tactics, legendaries and suspense, over Ash losing to some idiot who didnt even bring a full team with him and can barely tie his shoes... That's fucking insulting to Ash's journey thus far, and solidified Unova as the worst region quest of the series... Thank goodness Ash is back to a tolerable level of ability and competence.

Nobody knows, they were not revelaed. They are probably strong too, but Tobias never had to use them before.

Pretty much all of Ash's league losses were asspulls, it was never a trainer Ash met in his journey that beat him, but some random literally who he meets for the first time at the league.

That at least makes a little more sense, since that's likely to happen to in a real tournament that someone and their friends compete in.

I think it more stems from that Tobias is like someone's fanfic character.
