When last we left our heroes, DICKS had, over the course of two days, beaten the gym leader of the southernmost Philippine island and obtained the Specterbadge, had his incense stolen by a talking Toxicroak, chased said Toxicroak to its lair deep underground, and been forced to work with said Toxicroak to find a way out after a cave-in trapped them underground. Now, DICKS departs the gym once again, after a nasty encounter with the leader's Rotom-possessed computer terminal.

Adrian, meanwhile, had arrived on this same island just yesterday, and after an unsuccessful attempt to murder DICKS via an underground earthquake, now finds himself on the path through the marshes towards this islands gym.

Assuming you don't stop to get distracted by the pretty lights and try to take another dive at the candles in the marsh waters, you should reach the gym in a couple of hours. Until then, I hope you like walking. And mud. And the stench of a congealing orphan meat. And a lot of other nasty scents and sights that I dare not name for fear of invoking only the most primal feelings of revulsion.

Just remember; don't look at the lights, don't step in the water, and keep your wits about you. You'll be more or less fine, once you figure out a way to pry that blasted Orb out of Gengar's hands (hint- It won't be easy).

He'd long given up on taking the orb from his Gengar, resigned to it being stuck there for the time being. The damned thing wasn't going anywhere unless he got exceedingly lucky, and he didn't intend to try more than once on the way to the gym.

That shadow punch would do a number on Cofagrigus, for sure, but at least Fire Blast didn't hit. Fortunately, this ghost can take a lickin' and keep on kickin', so that's just what it will do. Revving up it's Pharaoh headgear, the mummy (and speaking of Mummy...) blasted Muk with another psychic barrage, while Sableye proceeded to rev up its carbuncle shield to smash the daylights out of Weezing.

The walled town of Aurora on the higher ground ahead can surely see him out in the open. He doesn't get shot by an arrow or hit by a Hyper Beam or anything. There are two gates, on the west and east sides of the town.

Again, Weezing's fire missed the undead Egyptian, and again, Muk's punches hit home. Knowing that it's end was either soon to come, or had come, Cofagrigus threw out its weapon of last resort. The two ghosts fell, and in their place was a spooky tree which I'm sure Adrian remembers quite well, along with a haunted ceiling lamp which Adrian might not be quite so familiar with.

This time, though, Trevenant was not built to take advantage of the endless sun. Now, it was built to combo off with its partner, Chandelure. A mass of spectral vines washed over the battlefield, soon to be followed by a wave of hellfire.

Bullshit strategy status: Not working. In one fell swoop, the enemy had revealed their plan, fucked it up, and gotten themselves hopelessly countered. Chandelure was down, and Trevenant was completely ill-equipped to handle things on its own. Time to bring in the last of the five; Gengar.

With just slivers of health left on each, this last choice of moves was critical. Attack different targets, or leverage their combined might against a single foe and hope for the best? Trevenant was likely to fall soon, and Gengar probably couldn't hold its own for very long, not the way things were currently looking.

We'll just have to try our luck and hope that hitting Tentacruel turns out to be the right course of action.

The vengeful and forgotten dead came forth like an invading army. If those dubs are brave enough to reach into a pile of dragon guano, you might find a few gold nuggets, or the remains of some unfortunate traveler, or maybe even an egg of some sort, using the guano as a protective incubator.

Of course, you'd have to reach into dragon guano to get your hands on these items, and maybe you'd rather not get quite so dirty...

The closest island to your position is Iwo Jima, so that's where I'll assume you're headed.

The first thing you'll notice upon your approach is the smell. Called "sulfur island" for a reason, the island is actually made from a dormant volcano, whose cone can be seen rising above the horizon. The scent wafts into your nostrils; light at first, a slight burning smell, like someone had recently fired a gun. But the closer you approach, the more pungent the smell of sulfur becomes.

The sun will be setting by the time you arrive, and the colours of the sky as that bright orb descends dye the waters of the shore a deep blood red, reminiscent of that fateful day when American Marines charged ashore amid a hail of rifle and artillery fire. No such trials would await Adrian this dusk, none but the ever-present stink of sulfur. In the distance, smoke seems to rise from the peak of the volcano. Perhaps it is not so dormant anymore...

The waves are light, the sand soft and warn to the touch. Wading ashore, you feel a warm breeze, even as the chill of dusk begins to pierce the air. None of the rocks seemed out of the ordinary, but in this day and age, who can say what the worth of anything is anymore. One of those rocks might be worth something in years to come. Keep them close at hand.

Leaving the encampments at the beach and moving further inland, you will find an abandoned field outpost. Tables, tents, and fences arranged in such a manner that the spirits of the dead almost seemed tangible, going about their daily routine as though the war were still on, preparing for an invasion that had long since passed. But all is not quiet in this court of ghosts. There is a light coming from one of the tents, the soft glow of a lamp breaking the encroaching darkness. The faint sounds of a person humming can also be heard, some tune that Adrian could not identify.

Someone is still here, it would seem.

The man stepped back only slightly as their forms appeared, the man silently gazing back at the collected army as he sent out two more of his own, a Golurk, and Jellicent soon flanking beside and behind him as he awaited their next move.

He didn't have to wait long before they attacked, their spectral bullets filling the air as the man braced himself, his own spiritual barrier forming a shield around himself as he began to slowly and almost painfully advance.

Though their spectral bullets made no wounds, and their spectral shells left no scars the will behind those attacks told another story, each bullet, each shell, each blast of ethereal was a piece of their own suffering, of their own despair, and for a strong spiritualist with an connection to the spirit realm, the force was enough to buffet him through their sheer force of will.

The man strained against this force of sorrow and hatred, the mass of despair and regret, and the collective will of the spirits before him, the man giving a silent order to his own specters, barely heard above the roar of cannons, machine guns, and yells. His ghostly partners gladly obeyed and went into action seconds later as the fire was returned, a surge of fire, a blast of water, another shadowy orb which aimed towards the great beast that had appeared before him.

The two blows, the dark black of energy and the Gengar's own shadowy ball passing each other in mid flight, the man's defenses straining to the max as the blast impacted against it, she spiritual shield cracking as the energy spread outwards, his own specters facing the brunt of the blow.

Yet still he held.

Father had it before I did, and grandfather before him, and his father before him, going back to the first person in our family to own it."

Adrian raised the cup of tea, pouring a tiny amount of it out onto the ground.

That done, he got to work.

"Really? You must have quite the way with pokemon then."

A few clanks as he rummaged through his bag for a pan and some various meats, quickly starting to cut and season them inside said pan before putting it atop the fire type.

"I hope you like stir fry, it's nice and simple. Perfect for camping."

He whistled quietly after hearing the swords pedigree, impressed by the age.

"I think I know a guy that would love to see that, for more than one reason even."

He didn't know much about this sort of thing, but even he knew how well cared for and made it must have been to last this long.

Ending the call, Sanae silenced her phone and returned it to its place in her pocket. "I apologize for cutting our meal short," she said, picking up her sword and uniform jacket. "But I'm needed elsewhere."

The gym was built to resemble a grass hut... Which was quite easy considering it was a grass hut. The roof was thread-bare, letting in the bright sunlight. And there she was, swaying her hips to the music she hummed to herself. Her skin was a sun-kissed tan, her hair long and green, like a forest of silk. Her manner of dress was a surefire hit with the summertime sunshine- Little more than a grass skirt and a pair of halved coconut shells strung together to form her bra she wore, and damn did she wear it well.

At the sound if intruders, she looked up, smiling as she greeted the two young challengers. "I remember you" she said to DICKS. "Come for that rematch? And you brought a friend too, how cute."

From the air, the gym was easy to spot. Shaped like a towering statue of a Kangaskhan, rising high into the sky (actually, it probably would have been easy to spot no matter where you were), it stood proud and tall above the other buildings that surrounded it.

Outside of manga only scrapped BW (they went with simplier design updated in BW2 I think) were trying to give them some distinct personality.

I still wonder which one is which when compared to manga counterparts.
