Also I would like to point out that pre-historic speech being simplistic is a common misconception. It's actually the opposite—there is a tendency for languages to lose complexity over time.
Sanskrit for example has a lot more cases than most modern European languages; Afrikaans is considerably simpler than Dutch; and you can compare the very recent Shakespearean Early Modern English with today's Modern English to find that some grammatical elements (like the distinction between thou and you) have gone missing over the centuries.
