Namco Negcon + PS2?

No.2761017 ViewReplyReportDelete
I know that the PS2 plays PS1 games, but is the Namco NegCon controller compatible with the PS2 playing a PS1 game that was originally compatible?

Homemade Arcade Thread

No.2761542 ViewReplyReportDelete
Hi /vr/.
>Be me, in 1st year of IT engineering school
>Find buddies interested in retro vidya
>Big conference at school
>Teachers tell us we've gotta do a project for the end of the year
>"Let's do an arcade machine guys !"
>Everybody's like "fuck yeah, let's do this !!"

Basically, we're gonna build a minimalist computer with a Raspberry Pi 2 with Arch running on it, program an interface so players can choose their game, have a wifi connection so we can put our own games on it and make updates, put high-scores online and shit but we have a few problems:

1) How can we use old arcade games on our arcade machine without running into legal trouble ?
2)When playing with two players on Mame on the same keyboard, we had a huge input lag on most games but especially Dodonpachi, and shit like this can ruin the game. Any ideas ?
3) We're gonna build our own arcade controllers for it. Any advice ?

Also, general arcade thread and thank you /vr/ troopers.

Online Multiplayer Help for Original Worms

No.2751546 ViewReplyReportDelete
/vr/, my friends and I love the original version of Worms. When we all lived in the same town, we'd play the Sega Saturn version for hours at a time, and now we very much want to find a way to play that version online. It seems this version of Worms was released on the PS1, Saturn, and DOS, and which version we use does not matter to me. Unfortunately, none have online multiplayer support, so what would be the best way to go about this?

I've looked into online multiplayer support for PS1 and Saturn emulators, but none of them seem reliable. We've tried Retroarch but could never establish a connection. Another issue is that both versions do not support multiple controllers - everyone controls the game through controller 1, which I wouldn't know how to accommodate in an emulator. Is there a simple solution here I'm overlooking? Linux support would be preferable but not required.

If we can't find a suitable emulator, we were thinking of using a central server (or one of our computers) which would run the emulator or DOSBox and stream the footage to Twitch, while everyone would have a connection to the server allowing them to deliver input. Is there a way to do this? I'm most familiar with Ubuntu servers, but I'd be willing to learn a new system if something else would work better for this.

Are there any other ideas to make this work I haven't thought of?

Worthwhile hacked and pirated roms

No.2758891 ViewReplyReportDelete
So I'm building up my collection of roms. I'm on a mac and as far as I know there are no Goodmerge tools for mac, so I'm unzipping everything and deleting the regions, languages and other games I don't want before rezipping.

However there are a ton of hacked roms for some of the more popular games. Making games is hard so I assume the vast majority are crap, but there has to be some gems in there.

What are some of the worthwhile roms. Any system is ok as I've got a huge hard drive and downloading complete collections.

Pic probably not related, but watching video of it made me realize some people are actually putting effort in to these.

question /vr/. Is this text asking me to save? Because if it is, I need to get a new battery, because whenever I turn the game off and switch titles, the save game is gone. Like, if I exit the game from the menu and go to the continue option from there I can continue, but switching titles just deletes all data.

At this current time have there ever been any major fan recreations of these classic games? Nintendo hasn't made a full blown gallery game since 2002. A shame since these titles are still stand up surprisingly well and would have looked so nice on the DS/3DS systems. The club Nintendo stuff was unfortunately the closest we got.
