Games with a real B-movie vipe. Over the top, hilariously stupid, cliché plots that make the whole game a very fun experience. At least if you are into that stuff.
Samurai Zan certainly is just that and I think they even put some love and effort into it. Just listen to the opening song.

Can we have a jrp thread? I'm looking for a new ps1 game to play on my psp. I have vargrant story, xenogears, wildarms, and parasite eve on my to play list but i'm currently leaning to ffIX since I liked both 7 & 8. I tried wild arms but i couldn't get into it. Anything else I might be missing? Anyone else unable to get into wild arms?

First played this when I was 14 around 2001. It was the first game I ever took notes playing to try to make sense of all the philosophy and plot points. I barely managed to finish the game with a seriously gimped party on account of not grinding enough earlier on. It's the only RPG that has ever interested me enough to finish it for story reasons. And by story, I mostly mean Elly.

So I recently started playing pic related. I wanna like this game so much, but the controls are so freakishly bad, it's so frustrating. I get that it's an isometric game and that there are only four directions you can go. That's fine, but why do the buttons always change way your character is moving? For example, when I press up I move up-left. When I press left I also walk up-left. when I press down or right, I move down-right. So basically the main four directions on the control pad only move my character in 2 directions. Only when I press in a diagonal direction my character moves in that direction. Why? Why aren't up/left/down/right on the control pad up-left/down-left/down-right/up-right respectively? That is just stupid, because the Mega Drive gamepad makes it hard to move diagonal. Also the input direction always changes: When I hold right on the pad and my character moves down-right, as soon as I enter anothr room suddenly right makes my character move up-right. What the hell? Are there any tricks that I'm not aware of? The platforming in isometric games is frustrating as it is, but with the controls it's almost impossible. I don't understand why the game is praised so much when the most important thing, managable controls, is so fucked up. I considered playing the game on an emulator and just mapping the four main directions to diagonal directions, but then again I wanna play Dark Savior, too, so I wanna get used to this kind of controls. But it's just so frustrating and just not fun :(

There's a remake of the first games in the works that might up the notch over the IIGS and Amiga ports. $3 isn't a whole lot but you could always just emulate it first. Do you have experience with other party based dungeon crawlers like Wizardry or Might and Magic?

OP again, Jaws is done so I've been doing Real Bout, RBS, and RB2. RB: Not sure I like this one. I only went through it once but it's still 3 planes it seems like, and the new button format is weird. What is this "jolt special" button? I just end up using it all match since it seems to hit pretty hard. Kinda disappointed there's so few stages too, and ring-outs are weird. I'll try it again later. RBS: This one seems godly. Back to 2 planes, and when the other guy's in the background there's lots of ways to hit him easily. I went through a couple times with Terry and Mai and it was really easy to do all their moves (minus desperations). I still don't get how the new power bar system works, but I'll practice. I want to go back through a few more times with other guys, but this is the best one so far. All the stage intros are really cool too. RB2: It says newcomers but there's only 2 new guys? It doesn't seem like much of an improvement over the last one, and now you can only hit someone in the background if you hit the plane shift button, which if they come at you just as you press it you shift instead. Not as fluid in that regard, but I can adjust. I still think RBS was better. (not my pic btw in case anyone wants to have a hissyfit over >filters)
