I have about 21. 20 complete in box.
When the system was like DEAD I worked at Sears and we found a ton of them just sitting in the backroom . At that point they had been marked down to like $20 a piece and the games (we found about 3 boxes of those) were around $3-$5 a piece.
Add on my employee discount and I got a crap ton of stuff for cheap.

My parents bought my brother one because we always fought over who got to play, and he gave it to me when he got new systems. If I can get one of those flash card readers I'll probably mod the one that isn't from the 1st run. My third one is a boxed system. I bought because it was in a lot with games I wanted and couldn't bring myself to sell it. Finally, there's one sports edition that I also picked up as part of a lot. 2 dreamcasts 7 controllers and a tankstick with dreamcast adapters. I got all of that for less than 100.

I have an old arcade cab that I threw some shelves and a crt in. I keep gc with gameboy player, ps2 fat, dc, and softmodded wii in there. It saves space and looks better than having an entertainment center with old consoles.

I have one non functional Dreamcast and one DC that had a dying laser that I installed a GDEMU in.

I wanted to repaint the shell since official/non-official replacements are expensive as fuck right now due to reseller scum, so this way I can use the second DC's shell in case I screw up or am not satisfied with the result.

Also I'll have a spare controller port block and PSU in case the ones in my main DC ever break down.

Look at the sticker on the bottom of the system. It will have the manufacture date. I believe the ones from October 2000 and later are the ones that won't play burned discs.

maybe a little off-topic, but has anyone had success playing Evolution for the dreamcast on an emulator? I've been messing with various various of DEmul, and plugin configurations, and they all yield some form of fix for various problems at the cost of another weird one (game stuttering or audio/game slowing down, textures getting all weird, inputs getting fucked up)

I've got a physical dreamcast that I know plays burned games (if you do it right, I guess) I got off ebay years ago stored away in a crate somewhere, but I can't track down the VGA output cable I had for it and have no composite/RCA input devices (plus I figured emulation would have advanced a bit more by now or made up for by faster PCs)

Yeah honestly.

Even the good PS2/GC/Xbox games are one the rise, which is making collecting way more difficult. I would strongly advise picking up last gen games because those are the most relatively cheap.

PSP is also really cheap, and it has a lot of great games. You can also hook it up to your TV via the component cable so its very playable.

Keeping your shit together is great. I pretty much remember every game I sold or gave away, and only recently finished getting them all back. I also picked up most of the entries in series I liked but never played them all (Mana series, Final Fantasies, Silent Hill, Resident Evil, DC, and a bunch more tha taren't retro). I'm pretty happy with what I've got for now, but I am open to getting more in the future but I'll probably focus more on modern for now since I still enjoy a lot of the games that are coming out.

I have never owned a Dreamcast but I am on the waiting list for a GDEMU. Once it's posted I will probably buy an American one and import it down under.

Recently got a Saturn with a Rhea and a Jap MegaDrive 1 with an EverDrive. Being a Nintendo kid growing up its fascinating to go back and see what the grass was like on the other side. Guardian Heroes has got to be one of the best games I've ever played, so I can't wait for Shenmue and other Dreamcast gems.

NullDC had the same texture flickering and psychedelic color issues, but I got it (mostly) working with the latest DEmul

looks pretty nice at 2x internal res with some fxaa, considered the hdr or blur filters but maybe a bit much, and it runs smoothly and without clipping/z-fighting/general graphical issues 99% of the time

some problems remain, like occasionally it will slow down and make the audio sound all trippy... and for some reason the game wouldn't progress past the splash screens until I added a second (unmapped) controller in maple, seems to be unique to the latest build of demul or some maple config problem

I'd have to find a way to scan an original, then pay out the ass to print a replacement, then file down the rough edges and drill out new screwholes and shit.

Might as well ask this here instead of making a new thread: would the Dreamcast be a good starter console to collect for?

The SNES market is way to inflated right now, and there's only a couple more N64 games I don't already own that I want, but the Dreamcast seems like a neat little system that has a lot of reasonably priced gems.

Good luck finding any good games for it in the wild. Outside of gamestores, I've only seen DC games a few times. I did get lucky at a Goodwill a few weeks ago and picked up 5 non-sports games. Well, one was fishing.

Oh you are right, actually i haven't checked for quite long time, it really got very cheap. I remember it being over 150 and up to 300. But maybe those were CIB, not sure anymore.

I did, but google's not being much help. I burned two copies of 3rd Strike, and neither work. the Dreamcast just says "Please Insert Game Disc ". I burned them at the slowest speed I could (4x). I'm using Imgburn, if that matters.

Does your Dreamcast boot retail games? If no, it's fucked. Clean the laser with 99% isopropyl alcohol and a q-tip. If that doesn't work google "Dreamcast laser POT adjustment" and try not to fucking electrocute yourself to death.

If it boots retail games but not your burned game than you fucked up. Some DCs can be picky with certain brands of CD-R (Verbatim, Memorex, etc). Odds are you fucked up the burn somehow though. Try with another image.

Essentially the first version of the Nomad, with no screen. Was first meant to be used in airplanes, as in-flight entertainment. Then, just sold on the regular market.
