It is a 3d platformer where you go from point a to point b
When Mario 64 came out I played that too, but was disappointed that there was such a limited amount of levels, and you basically had several star missions on each level.
This was nice and you had more freedom and exploration, but this wasn't what Mario 3 and Mario World were like at all.
Up to that point Super Mario was about getting from point A to point B and finding a few secrets/paths along the way instead of playing the same level over and over while finding different items in that level.
Thus, to me, Crash Bandicoot is the 3d Mario that I wanted and never got.
Don't get me wrong, I play and love Mario 64 but as weird as it sounds to me the Playstation 1 Crash Bandicoot games are more mario to me than Mario 64.
