Lets have a PRGE 2015 Thread. Is anyone else going to the show? What are you looking forward to at the show?

There is going to be a lot of cool new exclusives and homebrew available at PRGE. Several different vendors will have new exclusive games for Atari 2600, NES, SNES, Genesis, INTV and Sega CD.

That podcastis a shitshow. In most episodes it feels like they didn't even bother playing the games they were discussing, let alone do any original research; instead they'd just regurgitate HG101 articles.

Every once in a while they'd do something decent, like when they interviewed the guy who translated Policenauts, but even in that one Jeremy kept derailing it to complain about how 'pervy and misogynistic' the game was.

How do you figure? I just got finished listening to the forgotten portable game consoles episode and they brought up a lot of good points on the success and failure of portable gaming over the years. They seemed well researched.

Sitting in a hotel room acrost the street from it now. Down to the south of Oregon is a barren desert as far as arcades and opportunities to get much goes, so this might be a nice opportunity to grab some things without scrounging ebay.

I really enjoyed myself... It was my first ever video game "con" or whatever. It was awesome to see all the Atari homebrew stuff presented, some decent deals, amazing selection of games. Happy that I checked off a bunch of big shit off my list. Overall, really happy.

Great stuff anon. For future reference I would never pay more than 20 for home brews and repros. That's what a local company sells them for here in the Dallas area. I've found many of the repro carts to be grossly overpriced

Was fun, it felt like there were less games in the arcade this year than from last year though. Only panel I went to was the CU podcast which was enjoyable. Next year I'm going to try to be more aware of game prices though so I can spot better deals.

Way too many people this year, all cons are sorta like this but it was basically just a giant BO chamber with over-priced junk.

The free-to-play arcade was kinda nice, but disappointed there was only one 4-slot MVS cab.

I don't think I'll go again.

I had a lot of fun. I think it wouldn't be worth it if you went alone and/or you weren't interested in any of the panels or concerts. That being said, I still found very reasonably priced stuff and thoroughly enjoyed the arcade cabinets.

Don't try snaking on the F-Zero AX machine. You can't do it, and you'll look like a fucking idiot who doesn't know how to play the game.

I've heard of them, but I can't say I've given any of their stuff a listen yet. Are they worth checking out?

As far as "retro" gaming podcasts go, Watch Out for Fireballs! is a great listen. It basically functions like a book club for video games. They've also been doing live shows as PRGE for the last few years. I think they did one on Castlevania this time. Did anyone happen to see that?

The repros were ridiculous. I don't understand why anyone would pay 35-60ish dollars for repros. Everdrive or RetroUSB, I could understand. The market is going to implode on itself.

one vendor was legit making repros right in their booth, buying sports games from other vendors and converting them right on the spot. inkjet printed labels on paper with packing tape over them, I shit you not.

20 bucks is a damn good price for a repro, but they are commonly 30-35 online if you go to a place like chipmasters. Their quality is good.

Would love if some guys would actually sell repros for 20 bucks though, I'd buy way more of them.

They were charging 35 minimum, but I saw most upwards of 60 to 100. So stupid, considering they were destroying legit games to do it. The RetroUSB dudes at least have their own cartridge molds and boards. Fucking disgusting looking Mother 3 repros out the ass...even containing Tomato's translation which specifically is against this sort of profit.

I think a lot of the people who show up are sort of casuals who live in OR/WA/NorCA and they don't realize that you can buy repros for peanuts online. They're basically hoping for whales who see stuff like Radical Dreamers and Dragon Quest I+II and cough up $150 for them.

Isn't that a little ironic, expecting people who are getting in to the hobby to have a high level of knowledge? There's so much going on and so little documentation for it, its really easy for entire aspects of a hobby to get over looked, especially when it comes to internet exclusive shit like flash carts and repros and all this other shit that you won't see in a brick and mortar store because there's no money in trying to flip old games when so many of them can be burned/emulated and being a large enough business brings unwanted attention as far as producing new shit goes.

Original limited release games like Tron Bonne and Rule of Rose won't be affected nearly as much by digital releases.

They are "collectors items" the game itself is secondary to that aspect of its price. Its rare.

The only game that I can think of thats really dropped in price is FF7 and thats probably partially due to FF7-remake being announced and people trying to offload their multiple copies before people just buy that instead of the original.

For the most part for physical collectors a digital release doesn't effect the value of games. That being said, digital releases are almost always great for people who want to support the original developer and play the game.

That's not surprising. Dark Souls difficulty is pretty offputting for many people. I'm a huge Souls fan and the first time I played it I thought it was annoying bullshit.

It's an OK arcade. Staff and food and beer are all grotty as fuck though.

If you ever went to a kick ass arcade in Japan or Vegas, and then you went here, you'd ask "What the fuck?"

I like the pinball selection but other than that its just a standard arcade that happens to serve beer. It's like Voodoo Donuts in that Portlanders love to hype it up for whatever reason, but it isn't really that special.

Certainly check it out but don't expect to be blown away.
