I really liked Donkey Kong on Game Boy, shit's amazing. Also kind of a prequel to all of Mario if you take the ending into account. Really interesting game.

It is a thing, but although you will be missing the 3D effects and it might get double image unless you disable one of the layers I guess. I never messed too much with VB emulation.

Bonk is slow and kinda clunky, but thats cuz he's got a big head

Bonk is about the exploration, fruit collecting and fun bosses

Just replayed this. Meh.
It's good just because there's wario in it.
Uninteresting levels, boring enemy design.
Good music and bosses, good progression. That's about it. Wario Land 1 and VB Wario Land still win.

The original Shantae is tedious as hell, I don't blame you for not getting into it. Risky's Revenge is mediocre- decent concepts, bad execution and obviously rushed.

Pirate's Curse is damn good, though.

It's kinda hard since everything kills you in one hit, but there are plenty of check-points and infinite continues. Super well designed, very fun, the fighting game bosses are a bit enjoying and the sword feels underused, but still an amazing game.

Ofcourse completly playable without knowing Japanese.
