Do you ever emulate even though you own the original hardware? I usually have a dilemma because of this. Mostly when it comes to portable emulation.

This is pretty much my dilemma. I have an AGS-101 which I use to play games on but I can't help but wondering if it might be a better idea to emulate GBC and GBA games on my 3DS. The GBA SP aren't all that sturdy either and it happened to me that the thing turned off for no reason.

Anything else I play on my CRT and there's no dilemma there.

Pretty sure. I own 1 N3DS and 2 3DS(og and XL) Ive tested alot of roms and even in the latest nightly build (Cia and 3DSx) GBA still isnt 100%

When with a EZ flash has much better compat.

Tho progress on the 3DS is going good.

I don't know. It just feels wrong to emulate when I can play on the actual hardware. I recognize the benefits of emulation but ever since I started buying games and flashcarts it just puts me off for some reason.

It often depends on the game at hand. Often if its an expensive cart of game I'll emulate (like what I did with Shantae until the E-shop port).

Though not retro, if the console is 3D I'll often emulate it when using a PC, and then play on real hardware when I prefer to lay down or take fairly long trips.

When you have better screen technology now, why not use it instead of purposely limiting yourself and playing under a bright lamp like a retard?

I mean, there's not even a physical difference in the screen, like CRT vs LCD. You're literally putting a light source behind the screen so you can play in any sort of light condition.

There's a huge physical difference between an ancient LCD and newer TFT displays.
Lack of backlight isn't the only issue, ghosting and the like is also terrible.

I actually ended up buying a gamecube gameboy player so I could play GBA and GBC games on my CRT.

Definitely, absolutely positively worth the 60ish bucks people are usually asking for it. Its definitely overpriced now for sure, but I can't enjoy playing on a GBC anymore. The games are generally good, with a few standouts (I think the best Zelda games are on GBC, and theres some fun games like Ghost Babel and Resident Evil, as well as Metroid 2 and the pokeymans), and obviously GBA has some -really- genuinely good games because it was basically a souped up SNES and a lot of the games are graphically impressive and had the gameplay to back it up.

I feel like the GBA was like the second coming of the SNES honestly, and having the gameboy player with the cable is great because while I hate playing looking at the screen, its surprisingly comfortable as a controller.
