Didn't see a thread about it so here it is. I picked up this console and games for 100 bucks from a married couple on craigslist. everything works and the console still has box and manual. Do you guys think I got a fair price? What are some games that I should keep an eye out for?

I've got a fondness for the Master System. I grew up with it and I'll always love many of it's games

but fuck me, that really is the worst designed console box art ever designed. It looks like it's come straight out a stationary store.

I miss the days when systems came with a gun. It could make so many modern games absolutely awesome if they'd just bring it back and develop certain titles around them. I'm thinking something like a mossberg styled piece with additional controls on the pump grip.

I was pretty shocked when I saw how complete the system was, the guy selling lived in some tiny town of like 500 people so I doubt he really knew what he had.

Captain Silver is one of the silliest 8-bit games of all time by the way.

I'd say keep your eye out for Double Dragon. It's really good if only for the co-op. Phantasy Star is a big title.

It's a good system. Pretty underrated if you ask me. I sold mine years ago when I was a dumb teenager and I regret it now.

Sonic the Hedgehog is surprisingly good on the Master System and it's got different levels than the Mega Drive one.

Had that jungle duck hunt game, Hang On, and some horizontal space shooter with this transforming robot I thought was cool until I found out it was only 2 looping levels. The music was sweet though.

Sin and Punishment, and Capcom made 2 rail shooter Resident Evil games for wii (Wii owners complained because they wanted Real Resident Evil games)
but they were actually good.

I had the master system 2 growing up. I bought it around 92 or 93 toys r us for around $30. Twin Value was the only place in a 30 mile radius that sold games. They were rare as fuck.

The terrible sound chip really held the system back. It was a fucking glorius day when I installed that FM mod and popped in Fantasy Zone 2. Oh god what a massive leap in quality. That thing should have been fucking stock like it was in the japanese version. There isn't a single game on the system with good psg music. Easily the worst soundchip on any console. I've even heard better music coming out of a 2600.

I love this hunk of junk.
Ys is a fun RPG game and not very expensive. Phantasy Star is worth the price on the music alone. Ignore what people in this thread say, The Master System has TERRIFIC tunes.

Kenseiden is a lot of fun.
Golvellius is also really cool.
Rastan, Shinobi and Spellcaster are tons of fun.
Zaxxon 3D and Maze Runner 3D actually work and are neat.
Gangster Town is the best light gun game for the system.
Out Run is a must own, so is Space Harrier and the Double Dragon port has multiplayer!
I wish I owned Alex Kidd in Shinobi World..but sigh, someday...and Wonder Boy 3 is arguably the best title on the system.

That wonder boy game you have there is really good. Nice little Arpg. Alex Kidd in high tech world is absolute shit. None of the charm of the other games in the series. It was a different game that literally had Alex Kidd slapped on it.

Your lose copy of alien syndrome is a nice gem too. Tough little game.

If you like metroidvania style games, find the first Zillion. Quirky on the room passwords, but it's a fun game. Phantasy star is a must have and worth playing through blind.

I'm a USAfag and I had one of these as a kid after my nes shot shit. Loved this system. Wish my shitbag cousins hadn't stolen it.
