What's the ideal length for an arcade game? Keep in mind it's on a real machine and you have to stand there the entire name, no cushy emulation on your couch.

10 to 30 minutes. 40 minutes if the game is damn good.

Games like Rally bike take about 10 minutes to beat, but it's satisfying as hell.

I don't know but things like Gauntlet Legends take way too long. I think that's like 1.5-2 hours.

There have been times when people lined up and put their quarters on the machine to beat me at some Capcom fighter or another, and by the time somebody did, I was completely tired and my eyes were glazed over and needed time to adjust to the room before I could walk around normally. Not bragging since I really wasn't that good, but it actually happened. Thank God for stools.

I base all arcade games on Sunset Riders and that usually takes me close to a half hour to beat, so I'd say somewhere around there.

30-40 minutes should be the ideal. I usually never limit myself with coins when I'm playing on Mame but if it's a real machine it shouldn't be so hard that you can't get past the first level on the first coin.

When it comes to shmups, something around 25 minutes for one loop is ideal for me. 30 is fine but anything more than that wears out its welcome and tends to be filled with padding. 40 minutes for a beat em up is the sweet spot. No idea when it comes to platformers. Ghosts n Goblins felt appropriately long.

I used to think Metal Slug was around 30 minutes but I think my times were closer to 40 and 50.

Hell, most Neo-Geo games take me a long time to beat. Its hard to tell if its cause I'm bad at the games or they're just longer then I remember.
