>>2756756This guy lies. It's about chains, not combos. In all honesty large combos (10+) are hugely underscored in terms of garbage when a small chains (x2+) out performs them in both amount of garbage and type of garbage (chain garbage can only be cleared one line at a time.)
>>2756667Anon, it really is a matter of practice. If you love the game, just keep playing Vs until you can beat it. You'll hit walls at different difficulty levels, but keep playing and you'll eventually overcome them.
The thing is the more you play the game, the more you understand the mechanics behind it just from experience. Even if someone tells you to look for certain patterns, or about advanced techniques, unless you have THE EYE as
>>2756737 mentioned, you won't be able to apply that knowledge.
For instance, one of the coolest tricks I know in the game is called a "sneak". You can move a block through a match if you're fast enough, and in the right situations, this is an extremely useful tool. It's harder to do on the N64, but on the SNES the A and B buttons are arranged such that you can slide your thumb over them to be fast enough.
Also thinking about the N64, it's better than the SNES version because the AI is superior, however I feel the game doesn't play as tightly and that the N64 controller sucks. I strongly recommend you play the SNES version and beat the computer through Super Hard before picking up Puzzle League.
I don't toot my own horn often, but I'm _really_ good at this game. I rarely play Vs anymore because there is no challenge. I try now to max my score out as fast as possible in endless (99999 on SNES), and my best time was around 4:30 min. Pulling off x13 left and right and squeezing off some bonus matches at the end is as good as it gets. This game is like my violin.
I sincerely believe this is the best puzzle game ever concieved for it's simple mechanics and incredibly deep game play once you've understood the consequences of those mechanics.
