I just played Harvest Moon for the first time.

20 minutes in nothing was happening. Why is this game considered good? ._.

If nothing is happening it's because you're not doing anything. Plant some crops, save for some chickens and save the farm.

If that still feels like "nothing" to you, you won't like the game, so just play something else. It's considered good because it's a resource/time management simulator that's unlike anything else on the console. It does get really repetitive the more you play, though.

It depends on whether you like games that require some brains and organizational skills or games where you just jump, run and shoot like a retard, which CAN be boring for some of the more sophisticated people.

All a matter of taste and mental abilities.

I don't know how "popular" it was at release, but my cousin asked for it one Christmas and my parents got it for him. I remember them saying it was hard to find and being a little bewildered at my cousin's taste in games. My cousin also played a lot of computer games, so I imagine he was interested in the simulation aspects. I think most of the popularity of Harvest Moon is thanks to the latter games in the series though.
