So Ive had Fallout and Fallout 2 sitting on my laptop for who knows how long, since GOG gave them away for free due to copyrights. I havent played either of them, but I just now remembered that I have them.

So im going to give them a shot. But I know absolutely nothing about them. How to play them, how they work, etc. It's pretty exciting but also intimidating. So do you guys have any advice before I jump into these games?

if you've never played any of these before maybe you should start with Fallout 2 because its a bit more open, though personally I enjoy Fallout much more just due to the tighter story, not that Fallout 2 isn't one of my favorite games.

if you're starting out in Fallout 2 something like a melee or h2h focus makes early game a lot easier (but its not really necessary) some people have trouble with the Temple of Trials but really you can just run straight through and ignore everything.

for an easy starting build go for something like small guns, speech, and maybe lockpick just for convenience.

there is a guy in the Den called Flick who you can kill with no issue and steal his inventory which includes several guns and a bunch of ammo for them.

otherwise with small guns the initial quests until then will be pretty stressful, at least try and find the 10mm quickly

Yeah ive heard that 2 is the best to start with. As long as I'm not missing out on any story elements I will probably do that. And thanks for the advice.

Is fallout like morrowind, where if you dont have a specific skill you can't achieve anything (in morrowinds case, athletics).

Not really, you just need to focus on one weapon skill and put rest points in whatever you like, at least for first playthrough.

not really, its flexible enough where you can play really gimmicky classes and still be alright

My current one is pretty straightforward, basically a charismatic aspiring boxer looking to break it big, gonna take him to Reno and break into the ring as a major heavyweight, then maybe go into porn production afterward

Either way I want to make a wester style boxer so idk about learning all those Kung fu techniques

Yea because the first two are some of the best CRPGs ever while fallout 3 is a mediocre proof of concept and Fallout Vegas is a decent Expansion pack for it

It's entirely possible to sub mouse controls for analogue, and that doesn't bother me one bit. Sure, it's a little slower dragging a cursor around with analogue, but it's not as problematic as you faggots make it out to be. Also, I was never counting on console ports. I just saw what I thought could have been an awesome way to play every Fallout game on my platform of choice. The advert I saw was completely ambiguous as to what platform the anthology was for. If there is a way to make these games more accessible, are you seriously going to bitch about it?
