The music of the 8 bit Megaman games (and in this I include the fake retro 9 and 10 Megaman games) is better than the SNES, Genesis and 32 bit Megaman music.
Not necessarily because of the composition, I mean the sound textures.

Nah, the Mega Man X games sound great for what they are.

The 32-bit OSTs are lacking, though. Mega Man 8's OST is alright. X4's is meh. The other 32-bit X games are entirely forgettable.

But that aside it's a pretty decent upgrade and the Tower is fun.

it might just be me but I feel megaman's head looks huge in the 16 bit version.

Also the music just doesn't sound as good, as weird as that sounds.

NES to genesis ports had inferior music apparently, because Battletoads for the Genesis had worse music than the NES version, at least in my opinion

Saying an instrument is shit because a lot of people were lazy does not make the instrument shit, it makes the other composers lazy.

From what I recall, the development for this port was fucked. the greedy fuck Inafune made some statements about how horrible debugging the game was and how it was a clusterfuck.

But I know you're gonna have a whole bunch of nintenbabies are just looking for an excuse to wax their dick.

The guy in charge of it probably didn't have any prior experience with FM synths and he also CHANGED the fucking score from the NES versions. Why the hell would you do that?

The Genesis had two soundchips and the main reason it has that misconception of it sounding like shit is because a lot of composers just did half assed conversions using only one of the chips. The reason guys like Koshiro had great music was because they took advantage of both soundchips.

Controls are stiffer, slowdown is everywhere, and music isn't as good.

With that said, it's still worth a play, and Wily Tower is super fun.

Composition and personal preference aside, I feel Sonic 3 & Knuckles is the shining example of how to best use the sound hardware of the Genesis.
