This was suppose ot be funny but really it got me thinking, are these games really "classics" to this generation?

I don't know why people have trouble recognizing this. People didn't stop bringing kids into the world after you were born, and developers didn't stop making games after you turned 12. Each generation always has its own classics depending on the tastes and circumstances of the time.

For some people its Ocarina of Time and FF7, others its Sonic and Mario, and for people who happen to be growing up now its Skyrim and CoD/Halo. Go back far enough and its The Odyssey or The Epic of Gilgamesh. Nothing has changed.

Except I don't think every book or game I loved as a kid is a "classic" because I'm not a narcissistic fuckhead. The joke in the OP is stupid anyway because Halo and COD are franchises that are still going, it's not like he said Mario 64 or something specific.

Although something I think sucks might be considered classic, more time is needed for that to happen, because classic doesn't mean "whatever you liked when you were 12."

The one biggest thing to come out of the current generation is Minecraft, though.

CoD games are in essence the Bond movies of gaming. There's not classic individually, they're a popular part of the culture combined.

There's a difference between a game you simply liked and a megahit that everyone your age had experienced and bonded over in the past. Call it a classic or call it whatever, but those games that.

Besides, you have to define classic a bit differently with vidya vs something like film due to the younger age of the medium.
