Not him, but the Wii has shittier video output than the GC (on component anyway) and the PS2 has compatibility issues with certain games.

At any rate, I would imagine that there some SG-1000 games that are incompatible with the Mark III/Master System, since they made use of the keyboard peripheral which required the expansion port.

I meant the chipset is the same, however there are a number of hardware differences so Colecovision games would have to be reprogrammed for the SG-1000 and vice versa.

I actually did a conversion of an SG-1000 game to the Colecovision. They're the same in that they both use a Z80+TMS 9918/19 chipset, but the controllers are completely different as well as the memory map. The biggest headache was redoing the interrupt structure in the game because the Colecovision's interrupt handling is a lot different and more of a headache than the SMS.

The graphics and sound are identical. The ColecoVision is cheaper first and foremost and it has way more exclusives - and many SG-1000 exclusives have been converted. The Colecovision also has way more buttons for potentially deeper, more complex games which even if they did exist for sg-1000 would be in Japanese.

The latter. I had a fully documented disassembly of the game, but trying to modify the interrupts for the Colecovision was a bitch and a half. Mainly because the NMI is tripped by the 9918 on the Colecovision while it's not on the SG-1000. The latter's interrupt handling is a lot simpler and less timing-sensitive.

Nice job. Sounds interesting to do. Also had something similar in mind for some other consoles. But there it's even more harder snce too much is different and gave up at some point. Might try this with Coleco<>SG too just for fun. Sure will still be hard and a pain, but as it sounds way more realistic than a conversion from somewhere else.

you can easily emulate the games, any emulator that can handle master system games can play them. I recommend Fusion.

Like I said, the SG-1000 did have a keyboard add-on in Japan, although it wasn't released in PAL regions. So that's actually one better. An entire keyboard versus a little dinky keypad.

It definitely seems to be a step up in challenge but if you're the guy who already ported SG-1000 to Coleco you might find it worth checking out. Personally I'd rather see the SG-1000 exclusives made available for Coleco more since I'm more likely to get a Coleco flash cart than a Master System one as I already have a Megadrive one.

When porting also please release source and docs. Really helpful for people to learn and get started instead completly starting from zero again. Also it's not like anyone will make money of this. Most of the charm of really old games is in the shitty TV setup and quirky controller.

I can play shittily made flash games online and get the same effect as emulating a Pre megadrive era game. Not the same.

That being said, since I won't be getting this console any time soon, I'll probably end up emulating it anyway.

The console had less than 100 games and the ones that are actually decent and worth playing have all been converted by now.

the sg1000 ii, mark3 and jap sms are also legitimate ways to play, however the latter 2 have a darker palette because its improvised from 6bit rgb
