Give me some of the best from your childhoods, /vr/, preferably not from an arranged soundtrack since there's already a thread for that up. I'm especially looking to add more non-Nintendo related music to my list, since I grew up as mostly a Nintendo kid.

Ulterior motive:

I volunteer for a retro video game convention that just began in my area, and they wanted to feature Rock Band at an upcoming convention, but weren't sure about it since it's not retro. I offered to make a retro video game setlist for a PC clone of the game, and I want to fill it out as well as I can, but it's a bit hard for me to solely judge on my own childhood since I mostly grew up on NES/SNES.

So I'm also looking for songs I can hopefully get multitrack stems for, or great covers/remixes. I want to get a lot of songs that would be easier to play too, since there are a lot of casuals/non music gamers and kids at these conventions too.

Big Blue or Mute City from the original F-Zero, Chemical Plant Zone from Sonic 2, Guiles theme from SF2, and more Mega Man would hopefully be good options.

Actually that "Sega Medley" I have listed is built around Chemical Plant Zone, then it goes into a Jet Set Radio Song, The Wilderness from Golden Axe, and then into the Burning Rangers theme before returning to Chemical Plant.

I had Big Blue and Mute City (Original) lined up, but the band I was working with backed out on me, I may just go for the SNES originals in that case.

I actually owned a Game Gear growing up since my friend somehow wound up with 3 and gave me one of them, but I only had Sonic Triple Trouble and Sonic 2 for it, and never played much because of the horrid battery life.

Gameboy on the other hand I'm very familiar with, and am actually using LSDJ for my own musical projects right now.

That Spirou song is amazing, also! For some reason it's reminding me of Plok on the SNES, and how masterfully used the hardware was for that game's OST.

Yasunori Mitsuda's work is some of the best. He made the soundtrack Xenogears, Chrono Trigger, Chrono Cross and many others.

While I'm really not seeing that, Follin was definitely an influence on Alberto Gonzalez. Just listen to Asterix on the NES.
