Someone who doesn't know where to start with ricing shouldn't be messing around with the default windows shell outside of a visual theme. They will prob end up breaking it and don't make backups hence shell replacements especially bblean make it easier to rice

I was using urxvt for my terminal, and a modified cmdfetch.

You can use cygwins default terminal 'mintty' and customize that as well.

The visual style is a custom one I created with wsb

Everything you can see there is pretty much xfce (term, panel), the music player is mpd & ncmpc, using Emerald & Compiz for the WM and the icons are FaenzaFlattr-Black (AUR). All running on Manjaro.

OK, I read the fakoo, I read all of the links, but I'm trying to get a feel for what OS is generally preferred before I get involved in either, because from a lurker's perspective it seems like mostly shitflinging.

I just bought a piece of ass Thinkcenter for $40, putting a 1TB HDD in and using it as a media center at my TV for music and movies. Displayport to the TV, toslink from TV to amp.

Wat OS? Arch? Win7? Ftr I used to write some >rainmeter code when I was 15, 6 or 7 years ago, but it looked like shit anyway. I'm bretty good at delving into the framework but I don't want to spend too much time on it since it's not my main computer and I'm really stretched for time as it is.

Greetings ODT. I have a question for those of you kind enough to answer. I'm a macfag. Now before you all point and laugh, I work primarily with Photoshop, Illustrator, etc. and all the overpriced crap that is the Adobe CC Suite. Windows is not something I want to have, nor have the money to buy, and setting up any VM of Linux is out the door too (shitty internet connection tbh)

Pic related is obviously in progress, but I can't figure out one thing: the menu bar. Getting rid of that God-awful stoplight and theme breaking grey menubar on all applications I use would be wonderful.

I've never used a mac ever but i think you can use homebrew to port *nix DEs and WMs and just work it like its Linux. To get it how you'd want it might need a tiling WM and they suck..

To just remove the titlebar? No way. I'm fairly sure most WMs have options to remove those, even automatically and even per program if you want.
Though I've only ever used openbox and tiling ones personally.

So from what I read, ricing is basically what rainmeter does, except your building from the ground up instead of using a template

top center: i'd use a normal digital clock, but whatever. you don't need the year. you know the damn year. same goes for month tbh. so "FRI 23" or something should suffice.
