The truth of the matter, the Internet became unworthy of the OC we used to produce. Shameless clones made baseless claims and corrupted what was once a bastion for those of us destitute, depraved of human contact. Those loathesome /b/ro's who understood what needed fixing and could breed a proper sense of fear into the uneducated and unknowing masses. We tried to make an empire without a leader, we became something dangerous and mighty: An idea. We clung to a mask of anonymity and acted like the kings of the world. For which many of us might as well have been, at least online. We had power and we chased out the unworthy. The worms found a way back into our domains with offerings of porn and stole our OC.
I've been here since 2003, I remember all of it and God willing I'll die with those fond memories. At this point I've watched the rise and fall with joyous cries of triumph and sorrow filled mourning. The time before, when any abstract idea became OC, when a "meme" wasn't common tongue, defiled by unappreciative masses who will never know the power that the Internet is capable of, nor respect it.
We fell because one enemy exists that no man can best, time itself. Adulthood, authorities, life caught up to each of us. We became distracted, distant, our fellowship breaking apart slowly in favor of other interests. People came here for something that was once great, we left them the scraps. A depleted and barren waste where once the greatest of friends and enemies mingled together united for one purpose.
I think I'll drink to that memory.
