I've seen so many gifs of the planes hitting the towers that it's practically meaningless. Makes it easier to laugh at it, thankfully, but this picture always sobers me up.
The top floors, trapped up there, so hot and smoky that they practically climb out of the windows high in the sky, just to cling onto life for a few more minutes despite their doomed situation. Maybe they were hoping the fire would die down, or maybe they just knew they were already dead.
Whenever I see the Twin Towers, I think of how much suffering we inflicted on the world to avenge them, but when I see this photo I remember that 3000 people suffered this way first.
