>>16874248Back in highschool my senior year wed have different branches of the military come and talk to us in some of our classes about joining their branch and give us info about it, basically a sales pitch bullshitting about,"u get free college" and,"9/11 GI bill" and basically sucking our cocks to get us even considering joining. The navy came and talked to us one day and during their lecture of what people in the navy do i asked on of them,"is it true weve only discovered 5% of the ocean?"
One of two navy enrollment officers responded and his reply intrigued me. He said,"thats a good question. Its classified. I worked on one of those cool submarines that explores the ocean floor and maps the areas for other submarines and ships. I saw some incredible things but most of the time it was all just sea floor."He went on and said a few other things i cant remember but he ended it with,"so technically, yes. Only 5% of the ocean has been explored, as far as im allowed to tell you.
Being the smartass i have always been i autistically asked shortly after,"are mermaids real?" And the look on his face melted to a cold solid dead stare. I assume thats what theyre trained to do when being interrogated, that was my immediate first thought. The look on his fave was like looking at a safe that can only open itself. He replied,"no, they are not." The happy giggly navy man who just a few seconds ago was cracking jokes and laughing was now giving the most dull, boring lecture with 0 emotion. Either my question really insulted him and his career, or i triggered something within him. I will never know tbh
