By the way, if you recommend an "attraction" that features legitimate torture, you have taste so bad, it shouldn't even be classified as taste. Only bring up those places if its to legally take them down.

I'm thinking about going to one of these tomorrow, sounds like fun. But unfortunately I've never really tried this before. I've only been to small funhouses set up for charities and stuff, and haven't really been since I was a kid.

I used to love hanging out while my dad and his buddies built their annual haunted house for the Lions Club every year when I was little, though.

I once went to an extensive walk-through funhouse/haunted house that featured psychadelic strobe lights, giant revolving floors, glow paint walls with false corridors and mirror-mazes.

I've been trying to track it down for years but I can't find it. I think it was on the Jersey Board walk for a time but it seemed like it was portable, (perhaps in 2 or 3 pieces?)

The exterior was arabian/genie themed. It was the most complex fun house I've ever experienced and I can't find any info on it.

I don't think he's talking about depictions of torture. There's a new trend for "extreme haunted houses" that are designed to affect the guests more physically. They vary, but some employ torture methods like exhausting the guest, dehydrating them, locking them in small spaces, waterboarding, force feeding, etc.

Central US, personally I love it because it actually involves proper acting as opposed to jumpscares, we put the shitlords in the jumpscare spots like the picture frames that drop as you walk by and shit like that. The owner's wife brings food for everybody before we open so that's pretty cool.

Were there other people working the attraction? She may have thought (even though it'd be ridiculously impossible) that all of the people she'd interacted with that day were actually the same person, and that person was picking on her particularly. Or she could have been doing that strange customer thing where they assume that every person serving them in some form of establishment is part of some strange hivemind and knows everything that's happened.

Another thing I remember about going to haunted houses when I was a kid, was that I used to react angrily and yell and swear at the monsters because apparently that was how I was expressing my fear. Then when I got home and actually thought for a minute and realized the actors were people, I felt awful and embarrassed. That was when I was a child, though. No excuse for a grown woman that knows better.

I feel safer in a vehicle, so I guess that makes walkthroughs scarier for me.

Yeah, I can see that. But oddly I think that the loss of control itself helps calm me. It removes responsibility from myself, which makes me feel secure having someone else in control. I get kind of anxious with walkthrough attraction that I'll do something wrong, and I want to hand the reigns to someone else. Also being in a craft makes me feel untouchable, having the parts of the vehicle between myself and the spooks.

Just got back from a haunt. Really fun time. I was laughing through a lot of it it was so fun. The actors were all really enthusiastic and did a great job. I hate being around kids though, and the children were just obnoxious.

There was one guy in a big adult sized superman onesy pajama set and a plastic mask that actually creeped me out though. Why is it retarded people are so scary that even people mimicking them creep me out?

Nobody is ashamed to admit they're scared of clowns, but I don't hear a lot of people talking about being afraid of the mentally retarded.

Really depends on your definition of torture.

By design, a haunted house attracts willing participants, so if you argue that someone can't be being tortured if they sign up to do it, then you would conclude it is impossible to torture someone in a haunted house. However, the extreme haunts in question sometimes have a no wussing out rule, and hold their guests even after the guest has expressed a desire to leave, which right there is entering iffy territory even before the physical affects start.
