>>16910881I have an Internet Provider that uses Yahoo Mail to handle the email and the IP address in my emails is just for Yahoo Mail Servers, not my IP. And that Yahoo Email Server IP(s) is a range, not just one number. Could the government use that to find me, fuck yeah, way easy. But Joe Online Email Backtracker Site User isn't, nor even anyone just typing the Yahoo Mail Server's IP into WHOIS, they'd just find out where Yahoo's server is. I don't think my situation is unusual, lots of people would have similar arrangements.
I believe people emailing from cellphones have an even more complicated IP mess where which email server is being used changes by locale.
Your IP is leaking all the time from other sources. Every Website can easily record your IP. Here on 4chan every time you do a Recaptha your IP is sent to google.
from google's reCaptcha forum:
reCAPTCHA collects the user's IP Address, correlates that with the site visited and stores it in logs indefinitely to ensure compliance with the terms of service. Although they say that they do not share that data, they have the right to do anything they wish with it.
reCAPTCHA leaves behind PREF, NID and SNID cookies with a six month life to keep track of preferences -
