>>16898134considering that the catholic church employs exorcists, i would assume that they created the modern idea of "demonic possession". i don't know the details but i'm sure the idea of a person being corrupted by "negative entities" in the form of spirits, demons, fairies predates that, though. if you've ever heard of changelings, it's kind of a similar idea. an entity (fairy) replaces a person, usually a child, and you can see mood, behavior and personality differences. it's all probably misinterpretation of disabilities and mental illnesses. i don't believe any of it is real. humans are capable of evil and strangeness without being possessed.
