With nothing left around to challenge us other than our own rapid growing population, heavy civilization set in. Then we developed propaganda and greater forms of dehumanization of the enemy humans. Having many people also plays a role in dehumanization...many different things that resulted in us caring less for each other and the culture that grew around not caring and fighting more. This is a controversial field so you'll find many biased answers for this question. It's a sliding scale, when things went to shit, but it correlates roughly with when our populations started to increase past normal bounds.
