Mmkay, says here that sometimes show creators try to express their opinions or bring attention to issues they feel are important. In this case, it's probably something like the importance of family and not being a self-centered asshole. That last bit wasn't in the manual, I just hated english class trying to teach me not to see the forest, just the trees. And then spend 45 minutes navel gazing wondering where the forest went.
