at a minimum, interpreting "Buddhism" as the teachings of Siddhārtha Gautama, their God/Satan dualism is Nirvana and a malevolent concept called "samsara" or "maya" respectively and it is just as judgmental and bullshit as the judeo-christian Yahweh. Buddhists work just as hard to appease Nirvana/Samsara's whims and much like Christian monks or Muslim sufis, Buddhist clergy spend most of their time focusing their mental energy on interacting with or trying to block it out.
Tibetan and Japanese Buddhism in particular have a huge number of deities: reincarnations of Buddha, circles of demons and angels, Greek/Hindu style pantheons and mythological stories, there is even a hilarious linear progression of reincarnation from mentally ill people to animal to human to demigod to god to nirvana.
This notion of historical Buddhism being atheistic is a western meme promoted by 20th century occultists and liberal humanists with little or no theological examination.
